Jerryl D. "Bro Time" Carpenter, 55, of the 2500 block of Myers Road, passed away June 6, 2008, at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was born Oct. 3, 1952, to the late Timothy and Mary Lee Carpenter in Birmingham, Ala. He was a graduate of Shaw High School, Cleveland, Ohio. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1972. Jerryl was a member of Providence United Church of Christ where he sang in the 8 a.m. choir. He was employed with NAV FAC MidAtlantic as a mobile equipment metal mechanic for 20 years and also was self employed as an auto body mechanic/painter. He was a shop steward of Local 97. He was predeceased by a brother, Farrell Carpenter; an aunt, Luella Ford; and an uncle, Turner Crenshaw. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marilynn C. Carpenter; one son, Fabian T. Carpenter; two sisters, Shirley Maldonado (Luis) and Yvonne Platt (Darryl); two brothers, Terry Carpenter and Michael Carpenter; two grandchildren, Latiana Carpenter and Kiana Carpenter; five aunts, Ernestine Berry, Daisey Caldwell, Nira Farmer, Naomi Crenshaw and Barbara Crenshaw; two uncles, John Crenshaw and Phil Crenshaw; a special friend, James Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Providence UCC, 2200 Vicker Ave. The Rev. Isaac L. McDonald will officiate. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, at a later date. Family and friends will assemble at the home one hour prior to service for procession to the church.
