Helena was a native of Stolhofen, Germany, and the sister of Sophie, Mrs Moses Hannauer. Helena arrived in Sonora about 1859 and married Meyer, having eight children including:
* Henrietta Baer b 1862
* Mary Baer b 1863
* Leon Baer b 1866
* Bertha Baer 1867-1942
* Rebecca Baer 1872-1946
* Daisy Gertrude Baer Thayer 1875-1905
* Julius Baer 1877-1972
Helena owned considerable property in her own name.
