Mrs. Herndon was born April 7, 1915 in Protem, MO. In 1933 she graduated from Marionville High School and also later received her LPN training. On February 1933, she married James H. Herndon in Galena, MO. He died in 1976.
Mrs. Herndon moved to Olathe in 1976 from Mt. Vernon, MO. She had operated the family dairy farm with her husband. She also worked at the Chest Hospital in Mt. Vernon, MO from 1960 to 1976. After moving to Olathe she worked at Olathe Medical Center as a LPN from 1977-1980. Mrs. Herndon was a Baptist. She belonged to the Miami County Quilt Guild. She loved her crafts and was well-known for her bears at the "Old Settlers" and other fairs.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Albert Ford and Sarah Isabelle Jennings Ford and her brothers, Cecil, Charles, Wilford, Thurman, Albert "John", Auzy H., Cleo and Garland.
Mrs. Herndon is survived by children, Helen Virginia Bird, Oakland, OR, Sue Kreitzer-Swan, Spring Hill, KS, and James Ray Herndon, Ottawa, KS; sisters, Helen Gladys Ford McNabb, Aurora, MO, Virgil "Carl" Ford, Kansas City, MO and Glen Ford, Hermitage, MO; six grandchildren and either great-grandchildren."
