Served with Gregg's Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers. He was promoted in July of 1862 in the 1st Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers to Lieutenant Colonel and in 1880 he was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives. In 1882 he was appointed major general of South Carolina militia.
