CROWLEY — Dr. John W. Blakemore, 85, a retired physician, passed away Friday, June 6, 2008, in Fort Worth.

J.W. and his brother, Roy, joined the Air Force at the same time. Roy was soon shipped out to Germany, but J.W. was given a desk job and never left the United States. J.W. served his term with the Air force, then went on to the Chiropodist Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. (Information from Ruby Geneva (Blakemore) West, sister)

Ruby Geneva West, J.W.'s sister, remembers this funny story about J.W. when he was little. The family lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, until about 1930-31. Dora Blakemore took Geneva, Roy, and J.W. to Kress's variety store in town one day - J.W. was probably about 6-8 years old at this time - he saw a toy elephant that had a spring-loaded head on it, and he wanted that elephant. His mother told him it cost too much for them to buy, but he really wanted it bad, so he proceeded to have a fit, and to shut him up she finally gave in and bought it, but she told him he would have to let Roy play with it, too. When they got home, J.W. told Roy he could have had one, too, if he had a fit like J.W. did.
