William Emery attended Young Harris College, GA and graduated May 1902 in the first law class of John B. Stetson University, Deland, FL. At the time of his death, he was the last surviving member of the class. He and his wife, Sabina "Bom Bom" Foustina Colson (1883-1981), moved to Gainesville, FL in 1903 where he started a law practice which he retired from in 1951. He was an instructor for two classes in the first law school at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL and was a member of the first John Marshall Debating Society which was organized on the University campus. During World War II he served on the Florida State Board of Appeal for selective service. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Gainesville Masonic Lodge, and the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association. He also was a ardent fisherman. He and Sabina had five daughters: Elizabeth Ann(1904-1994), Mary (1906-1986), Nancy "Hank" (1907-2004), Sarah "Maxey" (1912-2002), and Sabina "Binnie" (1914-1997).

William Emery was born in Thonotosassa, Hillsborough Co., FL, the second of nine children born of Thomas Jefferson (1853-1926) and Mary Eliza Rigby BAKER (1854-1928). His Baker ancestors were among the first forty settlers to the Brooksville, FL area in 1842, having first arrived in the Territory of Florida in 1829. Descendants of William Emery Baker qualify for a Florida Pioneer Descendant Certificate(State & County) through William's grandfather Arthur Alpheus Baker.
