Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for James Andrew Spence, 63, whose tragic death some time last Friday afternoon brought a great shock to the Cope Community where he resided.

The burned and charred body of Mr. Spence was found Saturday afternoon by Clair Smith, neighbor boy, who came
upon the body lying in the grassland. On Friday he was burning off the grassland on his farm and apparently suffered a heart attack.

He is survived by four children, Delmar and Loren of Cope, Johnny who lives with his grandmother in Wichita, Kansas
and a daughter living with Mrs. John Purvis at Atwood, Kansas. Mrs. Purvis is a sister of Mr. Spence and a brother E. E. Spence, also lives at Atwood.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Clarence Maun and burial was made in the Cope Cemetery.
