Rachel Thomas Layton Daugherty, was born on February 5, 1911 in White bluff, Tennessee to James Claude Layton and Winnie Hutton Thomas Layton..

She had three siblings; Minnie Layton, James Claude Layton, and Laura "Jeorgia" Layton Banhardt.

She married her husband, William Lewis Daugherty in the year of 1926 in Nashville.

They were the Parents of two Son's, William Lewis Daugherty JR and Joseph Lee Daugherty.

In the year of 1935 their oldest Son, William Lewis passed away at age five years old from an infection in his left foot.

She and her family were very strong Christians and they attended the Lindsley Avenue Church of Christ.

She was a homemaker and a Secretary at the Standard Candy Company.

On May 5, 1977 her husband William sadly passed away from heart complications.

After her husbands passing, in her later years she retired and moved into her Son Joe's home. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening and sewing. She also had a Dog named, Jody of whom she loved very much.

On May 25, 1981 Rachel had been cooking a big dinner all day for her family. Before the Dinner she had laid down to rest, and while resting she passed away in her sleep at the age of 69 years old. Her cause of death was believed to have been an Aneurysm.

On May 28, 1981 Rachel's Funeral Service was held at the Woodlawn Funeral Home in Nashville, TN in the Gardenia Room. The service was officiated by Maurice O'Neal and Wendall Byrd. Pallbearers were; Bill Waggonor, Donnie Webb, Neal Howard, Granville Mullins, and Grady Jones. After the service Rachel was laid to rest next to her Husband, William at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Section 28.
