Colman was born in Sterling, Ks. he was the son of Thomas Ellsworth Smith and Ida Florence Shelton Smith, He was the husband of Neva Mae Durkee Smith and the loving father of 8 children, Joyce, Austin, Bob, Sadie, Colman , George, Twila, and James, He also had several grandchildren.
Fay as he was known to his friends, was an expert horseman. And enjoyed working with them. He had worked with SunnySlope Farms and the famous "Lemon Drop Kid."
Next to his family, horses were the next love of his life.
He was a man of his word and everyone who knew him knew if he said he would do something, he would do it.
