A resident of Love County most of her life, Mrs. Prater attended school at Thackerville. She and Gerald Thomas Prater were married March 24, 1956, in Texico, New Mexico, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2000.
Mrs. Prater had a strong belief in God and worked hard taking care of her 10 children and her husband who was handicapped. In addition she was employed as a cook at several local restaurants, including the Red Rooster, The Hub and Denim's. Mrs. Prater was a wonderful homemaker and gardener who could make a four-course dinner for 12 "out of nothing."
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gerald Don Prater and Marvin Dale Prater; two sisters, Jackie Oliphant and Teresa Gibbs; and six grandchildren, stillborn infant, Mathew Prater, Jonathon Prater, Michael Howard, Jr., Dustin Cavitt and Chris Chisum.
