SANFORD – Raymond J. Bernier, 75, of 18 Bateman Street died Saturday at home following a short illness.

He was born in Sanford on September 18, 1920, a son of Edouard and Anna Belanger Bernier. He attended local schools.

Mr. Bernier was employed by the former Gagne Supermarket for 13 years. He later went to work for Cyro Industries for 18 years, retiring in 1986.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Bernier was a communicant of Holy Family Church.

A son, Robert, died in 1974.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hope R. Knox Bernier of Sanford; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Linda) Chesley of Sanford, Mrs. Don (Donna) Jones of Millbury MA; 5 sons, Richard of Tucson, AZ, Raymond Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Donald of Acton, Michael and Mark, both of Sanford.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church. Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by LaFrance Funeral Home, Sanford.
