Maria (Mary) Karolina Sophia Schulz immigrated to America at 11 years old, with her family, from Prussia (Germany) in 1871. They landed at the Port of Galveston and settled close to Brenham in the Immanuel Lutheran Church community of Wiedeville. They were married on January 12, 1882 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Immanuel Church community, Washington Co., Texas. They had nine (9) children: Carl Rudolph Albert Roesler, Caroline Wilhelmine Albertine "Tina" Roesler, Maria Sophie Louise Roesler, Rudolph Roesler, Amanda Theckla Marie Roesler, Eduard (Edward) "Ed" Roesler, Jr., Agnes Wilhelmina Roesler, Ernst (Ernest) Wilhelm Roesler, Emelia (Amelia) Wilhelmine Roesler.
Maria died of a chest disease and she is buried in the Wiedeville Cemetery. Prior to her funeral service at the Wiedeville Church, it rained. After the service, the pall bearers placed her casket in a mule-drawn wagon to move it to the cemetery next to the church. Maria was a very large woman and the wagon bogged down in the ruts to the gravesite. Four additional mules were needed to pull the wagon through the mud.
