Daisy Mildred Riden, 84, of Etowah, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Etowah Health Care Center.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she had been a resident of Etowah Health Care Center for seven years. A daughter of the late James Arthur and Viola Mae Shamblin Barker, she was a writer of poetry published in the "Hiwassee Ripple" paper, a publication within the Etowah Health Care Center. She had a column, called "Mildred's Poetry Corner," and enjoyed all the activities, especially the crafts, Scrabble and songwriting. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Newt Riden; one daughter, Sibyl Ann Orr; one son, Wade Newton Riden; two sisters, Nellie Faye Barker and Ruth Barker Blankenship; and four brothers, Leslie Barker, John Lee Barker, C.A. Barker and James "Doc" Taylor Barker.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Riden of Etowah, and Rick Riden of Crossville; four daughters, Betty Gardin of Blue Ridge, Ga., Linda Hyde of the Claxton community, Vicki Pritchett of Athens, and Karen Ables of the Claxton community; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Flora Teague of Maryville, Minnie Dilbeck of Rockford, Violet Rogers of Spencer, Mary Alice Weaver of Cleveland, and Agnes Joines Dickson of Athens.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
