Andreas "Andrew" Baldauf, a German Immigrant and the son of Andreas Baldauf and Matrina Chatharina Arno, came to America about 1855 with his two brothers. Andrew married Arnatena Ernestine Karst, also a German Immigrant and daughter of Matthaeus Karst and Eva Kaelber Kalber. They were married on February 3rd, 1855 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

Andrew was a Civil War Veteran. At the age of 36, he Enlisted into the Union Army on September 13, 1864 as a Private in Company K, 174th Ohio Infantry, and was Mustered Out on June 28th, 1865. For his service in the Civil War, Andrew received from the Federal Government a forty acre plot of land in Jay County, Indiana and moved his family there in 1869.
