US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1847 and commenced law practice in Juneau, Wisconsin. He was elected a member of the first State Legislature of Wisconsin in 1848 and was a presidential elector on the Democratic ticket in 1852. In 1855, he was elected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress and as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed leagl practice until his death.
