Bill grew up in Moab, and attended Grand County High School, participating in all athletic sports, excelling in football. In 1951 he enlisted in the Korean War and was stationed on the front lines. After receiving various medals and an honorable discharge, he came home to Moab and began work in the uranium industry during Moab's uranium boom. Bill continued to work in the mines and drove ore trucks in Moab until 1965. At this time, he bought a home and moved his family to South Jordan, Utah. In 1968 he became employed at Kennecott Copper near Bingham, Utah and remained there until his retirement in 1999. Bill was a handsome, hard working father, husband, grandfather, brother, and uncle who cared deeply for his family. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, while struggling and overcoming enormous challenges and heartaches. Bill believed that anything worth doing was worth doing with full commitment. He was a hard worker, taking pride in a job well done. He loved to hunt, fish and take the family boat to Lake Powell. Later in life he became an avid skier and golfer. He was a man with compassion for those with "special needs," having a daughter and son whom he demonstrated this gentle kindness to until their deaths in 1983 and 1993.
