Lived in Sherman 1859-1903; Began as messenger in 1872; cashier, 1874; pres. since 1886, Merchants' & Planters Nat'l Bank of Commerce, Sherman. Member exec com. Am. Bankers' Ass'n, 1893-96. Is interested in various banks, trust cos. cotton seed oil mills and other enterprises. Pres. Commonwealth Trust Co., St. Louis, Feb, 8, 1903; vice pres. Nat'l Bank of Commerce, St. Louis since Nov. 14, 1908; dir. Equitable Life Ins. Soc. of New York, St. Louis Southwestern Rwy. Co. Democrat. TOM RANDOLPH DIES AT HOME IN ST. LOUIS
St. Louis, Mo. , Jan 7 - Tom Randolph, chairman of the board of directors of the National Bank of Commerce of St. Louis, died at his home here today of apoplexy. He was director of the Equitable Life Insurance Society of the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad and for several years was a member of executive committee of the American Bankers' Association.
Mr. Randolph was born in Rome, Tenn., and began his career as a bank employee in Sherman. In 1872 he became bank cashier, and in 1886 he was he was made president of the Merchants and Planters National Bank of Sherman, Texas.
In 1903 he was made president of the Commonwealth Trust Comapny of St. Louis, and when the banking business of the trust company was taken over by the National Bank of Commerce, he became vice-president of the latter institution. In 1913 he was elected president of the bank and later was elected chairman of the board of directors.
The body arrived in Sherman Wednesday morning, and following funeral services at the Travis Street Methodist church, was laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery in that city. The pallbearers were T.D. Joiner, Judge H.O. Head, C.B. Bryant, Hayden W. Head, P.R. Markham, N.B. Birge, D.S. Thompson, C.C. Rountree and C.B. Dorchester.
