Scio-Former Scio resident L. C. Porter, 87, of Milwaukie died Monday at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital in Clackamas.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of Henry and Ina (Gaines) Buhite. She grew up in Scio and was a granddaughter of Willis Gaines, a Scio Pioneer. She moved with her family to the Portland area in 1923.
She married Ted Porter Aug. 8, 1942, in Portland. Mrs. Porter worked for Mail Well Industries of Milwaukie for 18 years before retiring in 1972.
She is survived by husband, Ted; daughters, Arleta Ginter of Pendleton and Patricia Kahn of Milwaukie; sons Dick and Elmo Marquette, both of Portland; stepdaughters Gloria Snyder of San Diego, Calif., and Ruby Porter of Yreka, Calif.; twin brother L. D. Buhite of Portland and 16 grandchildren and many great-and great-great-grandchilred.
Brother Ben and sister Evelyn died earlier.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 pm. Tuesday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home of Lebanon. A graveside service for Mrs. Porter will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Cemetery south of Scio, with Pastor Richard Herbert officiating.
Contributions in Mrs. Porter's memory may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 3101 S. W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, Ore. 97201.
