Cookeville Press April 27, 1944

Mrs. & Mrs. Alva Allen received word from the War Department that their son, Pfc Hobert H Allen, was missing in action in Italy since February 18, 1944. The last word received from him was January 4. He was well and had eaten his Christmas dinner in Africa.
Besides his parents, he is survived by 2 sisters; Mildred Allen of Detroit and Betty June Allen of Cookeville, and 1 brother, Albert Allen, also of Cookeville.


July 6, 1944

Mr & Mrs Alva Allen have received a letter from the War Department stating that no further news has been received of their son, PFC Hobert H Allen, who has been missing in action since February 13, 1944 in the Italian Theatre of War. PFC Allen was inducted into the army Apri 28, 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga and took his basic training at Camp Wheeler. Then he was sent to Ft Meade, MD where he trained as a Military Police. In October he transferred back to the infantry, and after a short visit here went overseas about the middle of November.
