Obituary for June Vickers
Mrs. Betty June Vickers of Cookeville died Wednesday morning February 20, 2019 in Cumberland House Hospice in Crossville surrounded by her family.
June was born Thursday March 2, 1933 in Putnam County, Tennessee to the late Alva Albert and Maud Chaffin Allen. She was 85 years old.
She was a member of Post Oak Presbyterian Church.
June spent her career in local banking. She was a retired Branch Manager at First Tennessee Bank with 39 years of service. She retired a second time after serving 13 years as a Teller with Citizens Bank.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael A. Vickers; siblings, Hobert H. Allen, Albert A. Allen, Mildred Whitefield, Jim Stewart, Fowler B. Duke, Billie Joe Davenport, Emma Dean Cook, Sonya Watkins, Annette Gilpatrick, Christine Farmer, Billie Matheny, Arleth Duke, Earl Glenn Duke, and Robert Duke.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Vay Vickers, Jr (whom she married March 26, 1949 in Ringgold, GA); daughter, Debra “Deb” Hargis of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Deana Hargis of Cookeville and Heather (Kyle) Story of Smyrna, TN; siblings Bonnie Jean Foster, Barbara Morse, Josiah Davenport, James Duke, Charles Duke, Betty Brown, and Linda Patterson; and her sister-in-law, Mag Stevens.
June’s funeral services will be held Friday February 22 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Barnhart officiating. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
