Mr. Rucker, a native of Shenandoah, VA, came here from DeLand in 1973. He was a US Army veteran or World War II who received a Silver Star and two purple hearts. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include a son, Fred Rucker, Ocala; two sisters, Lee Jenkins, Shenandoah, and Nellie Daniels, Jacksonville; two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Hiers Funeral home, Ocala, is in charge of the arrangements. Graveside services will be held at 9am, Monday, June 9th, 1997 at Hillcrest Cemetery with the Rev. Donald M. Tuttle, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7pm at Hiers Funeral Home,910 east Silver Sprogs Boulevard, Ocala.
Vernon was a great golfer and an over-the-road trucker for many years. He was a great friend of my dad's!
