Fern Lowery, 87, of Oak died Monday in Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Oak Community Church with the Rev. Henry Knotts officiating. Burial will be in the Nelson Cemetery.

Mrs. Lowery was born April 4, 1897, on a farm near Oak. She attended Lincoln and Oak schools. She married Ray J Lowery, Sr., July 12, 1917, at Hastings. He died May 3, 1969. She was a member of the Oak Community Church, Kings Daughters of Oak and a 60 year member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 268 at Davenport.

Surviving are five sons, Alvin of Oak, William of Wisner, Ray Jr. and John both of Superior and Darrell of Hastings; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Marian) Mosier of Davenport, Mrs. Kenneth (Patricia) Nygren of Canyon Lake, Calif., Joyce Fuller of Lincoln, and Mrs. Marvin Heinrichs of Loveland, Colo.; 40 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren.

Megrue-Price Funeral Home at Superior is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Fern Lowery was on of 7 children born to George Dallas Follmer and Eva Minnie (Smith) Follmer on a farm near Oak, Nebraska. She was born April 4, 1897, and passed away March 4, 1985, in the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at the age of 87 years and 11 months.

She attended Oak School and Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. Fern spent all of her life in Nuckolls County near Oak with the exception of 3 years in Lincoln while her father held a state office.

On July 12, 1917, in Hastings, she was married to Ray J. Lowery, Sr. This union was blessed with 10 children.

Fern and Ray farmed in the Oak area for many years, moving from the farm to Oak in 1950. They built a new home in Oak and moved into it in 1953. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 12, 1967. Until Ray's death, May 3, 1969, they spent several winters in Texas.

She was active in community affairs until her health failed. She was a member of the Oak Community Church, Kings Daughter of Oak and Davenport Order of Eastern Star #268 for over 60 years.

She entered the Nelson Good Samaritan Center, May 12, 1979, and participated in the social activities, playing the piano and whisteling (sic). She moved to the Superior Good Samaritan Center February 20, 1985.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, one son George Lowery, 4 brothers Clarence, Harry, Eugene and Ralph Follmer, and 2 sisters, Katherine Follmer and Pansy Blue.

Survivors left to mourn her passing and cherish her memories are her children, Alvin Lowery and his wife Rhodabelle of Oak, Marion and her husband Kenneth Mosier of Davenport, William Lowery and his wife Joyce of Wisner, Patricia and her husband Kenneth Nygren of Canyon Lake, California, Ray J. Lowery, Jr. and his wife Lila of Superior, Mrs. Joyce Fuller of Lincoln, Cordelia and her husband Marvin Heinrichs of Loveland, Colorado, Darrell Lowery and his wife Maxine of Hastings, and John Lowery and his wife Doris of Superior; 40 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 7, 1985, at 2:00 p.m. from the Oak Community Church in Oak, Nebraska, with Pastor Henry Knotts officiating. Ivan Schafer, organist, played "Beyond The Sunset" with the congregational hymn "How Great Thou Art". Casketbearers were: Stanley Lowery, Richard Mosier, Ray Lowery, Rick Lowery, Alan Lowery, Steve Lowery, Bob Lowery and Dick Lowery. Eastern Star Services were by Davenport Eastern Star Chapter #268. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
