James Brady was born in County Cavan, Ireland, May 14, 1826. Arriving in America in 1846 his parents located near Quincy, Ill. Later James moved to Versailles, where for a number of years he was engaged in the mercantile business with Robert Reid. In 1856 he was married to Ellen McCormick in St Louis, MO. With his family he moved to Quincy in 1890, where he lived a retired life and in 1903 took up residence in Winfield, Kan.
James and Ellen had nine children,eight of whom reached adulthood.
