Thomas Walker, son of Daniel and Rebecca Walker, was born in Randolph county, North Carolina, June 25th, 1852. The parents and family emigrated to Wayne county, Iowa, when he was a small boy and located near a little town by the name of Genoa; here he grew to manhood.

On the 6th day of February, 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss Jane Garanflo and to this union six sons and two daughters were born. In December, 1876, he and his companion were converted to God and united with the United Brethren church, but later moved near Numa at which place some of the children united with the Christian church and the parents also united with this church to be near and with the children.

On the 7th day of April, 1922, the wife and mother departed this life to be at home with God. At the time of her death she was 67 years, 9 months and 8 days of age. Since 1922 Mr. Walker has made his home with his children. On Sunday morning, July 3rd, 1932, at 10:50, he departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. McCreary, R.4 Centerville, Iowa, age 80 years and 11 days. Mr. Walker was a wonderful man of God. He was rather quiet and reserved, but always enjoyed a good conversation with his many friends. He loved God's house and God's people regardless of church affiliation and was exceedingly agreeable to be with. It was always a real pleasure to be in his presence and company and one could not help from feeling that Bro. Walker was a man after God's own heart and that he had been with the Lord and had learned of Him. His life was principally spent in agricultural work and he ever kept and maintained a good home for his wife and children as long as the mother lived.

He is survived by four sons and one daughter, W. E. and Glen of Centerville, Call of Buffalo, Wyo., and Earl of Bristol, Colo., and Mrs. J. F. McCreary of Centerville; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Black of Kansas, and Mrs. Mary Harris of Plano, Iowa; thirty grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter Mrs. Elma Houser, two sons, J. A. and Charles Cyrus, one sister, four brothers, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Baptist church conducted by the Rev. Luther W. Childs. The body was laid to rest in the Numa cemetery in the family lot. Six of his grandsons were pallbearers, namely, Lee, Jess, Lawrence, Alvin and Howard Walker and Francy Morris.
