Clure Phillip Rowland, 69, of Congress Parkway, died in a local hospital, Tuesday afternoon after a lingering illness. Mr. Rowland was an employee of Bowater Southern Paper Corp., native and life-long resident of McMinn Co., son of the late Melvin C. and Vertie Melton Rowland, a member of the First Baptist Church in Athens and a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local No. 43 in Chattanooga.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lena Womac Rowland of Athens; one daughter, Mrs. J.W. Toomey of Athens; one son, Vernon Roland of Athens; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. W.H. Liner, Sr. of Chattanooga, Mrs. W.E. Gentry of Route 2, Athens; two brothers Frank Rowland and Thomas Rowland, both of Route 2, Athens; one half sister, Mrs. Orval Nicholson of Lamar, Colorado.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Athens with Revs. Richard Smith and Bob Peek officiating. Interment will be in the McMinn Memory Gardens.

The body will remain at the Quisenberry-Laycock Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday night.

Body will lie in state at the church one hour before services.
