Lula was the daughter of Marshall Columbus Newman and Sara Etta Tucker. She grew up in Harlem, Columbia Co. When she was 20, she married Edward Virgil Stanford who was a 66 yr old widower. After he died, she married Mr. Gibson, and after he died, she married Jackson Longstreet Padgett Sr.
She had 5 children although one died at 3 mos old. Three girls and 1 boy lived to adulthood. She reared her children in Blythe, Richmond Co. GA and that is where she lived until her death.
She is buried with her first husband and his first wife.
