Funeral services for Silas H,
Best, 72, one of the best known
and most highly respected residents
of Heuvelton, who died at'
his home in that village Tuesday
morning at 7:30, will be held from
the residence in Heuvelton this
afternoon at 2.
The Masonic lodge of Heuvelton,
of which Mr. Best was a member,
will have charge of the services.
Kev. Lawrence Heatherington of
Rensselaer Falls will officiate. In
terment will be at Hillcrest cemetery,
Heuvelton.
Mr. Best, a retired farmer, was
born in the town of Oswegatchie,
near Heuvelton. He had lived in
the village for the past six years
He was the son of Isaac and* Eliza
Holliday Best. His father was a
member of the 142nd regiment,
Company G, in the Civil war, and
died in Andersonville prison. His
mother was a native of the town
of Morristown.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs,
Mary Connolly Best; one son,
Ralph, who resides on the home
farm in the town of Oswegatchie
near Heuvelton; one daughter,
Eliza, wife of Supervisor James
H. Witherell of Dopeyster, and
three grandchildren.
Mr. Best was for long one of
the most prominent farmers of
the town of Oswegatchie, retiring
six years ago to take up his residence
in Heuvelton.
