Benjamin was a married farmer, father of two, drafted into Co C of the 146 NYS Vol Infantry [a Zouave unit), on 19 Sep 1863 in Canandaigua, NY. He was 33 yrs old, fair complexion, 5' 4 & 3/4", blue-eyed and brown-haired.
