Norwich-The Maydole Hose. Co. of the Norwich Fire Department gave its president, Timothy D. Miner his final ride on a department fire engine Saturday.
Department members placed Miner's coffin in the hose bed of Engine 232, the Maydole Hose Co. pumper he often drove, for his final ride from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich to Mount Hope Cemetery where he was laid to rest.
Miner died Tuesday 12 days short of his 43rd birthday at Chenango Memorial Hospital ending a lengthy fight against brain cancer.
He had served several terms as president of the Maydole Hose Co. and was re-elected to the position Dec. 7. The Maydole Hose Col. and the Norwich Fire Department held special memorial services honoring Miner Friday evening at the Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich.
Moner, a longtime Norwich resident, had been employed as a cable splicer with Citizens Utilities, where he worked for more than 20 years.
Miner is survived by his wife Naomi; two sons, Christopher and Benjamin; his parents, Robert and Eleanor Miner of Norwich; one sister, Lisa and her husband Pat and two brothers, Lance and his Deborah and Chrstopher and his wife Diana. (Published in the Press & Sun Bulletin Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998)
