NORWICH - Jill R. Acenowr, 69, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2002 , at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady of complications following open heart surgery performed at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, in January 2002.

Born Dec. 15, 1932 in Syracuse, she was the (adopted) daughter of the late Harold S. and Ethel Winters Ryan and had lived in the Norwich area most of her life.

She was educated in the Norwich School System, graduating with the Class of 1951. During her high school years she was an active member of the band and orchestra. Following her graduation she was employed in stenographic positions with Sheffield Chemical Co. in Norwich.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norwich and on Aug. 20, 1955 in the home of her parents, the Rev. Donald Tubbs united her in marriage with James K. Acenowr, who predeceased her in 1991.

After living for several years in the Syracuse area, Jill returned to Norwich with her husband and became employed with the Norwich Pharmacal Co., while her husband completed his education at Albany Pharmacy College. In 1962, they became the owners of Service Pharmacy, Inc., and Jill derived much pleasure and satisfaction in helping out when needed with the daily operation of the store, meeting new friends and acquaintances in her favorite cosmetics section, while at the same time maintaining and providing a caring and loving home for her growing family.

She was an avid horseperson and enjoyed caring for and riding her own mounts with family and friends upon the back roads of the area. In her later years she participated in hobby, arts and crafts and found large pleasure in reading, shopping, having garage sales with friends and traveling extensively throughout the United States and Canada by car.

Surviving are her two daughters, and a son and daughter-in-law. In addition, six grandchildren survive. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, and her loving companion of recent years.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5 the Devine-Wilson Memorial Home, 68 South Broad St., Norwich followed by interment in the family plot in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jill may be made to the Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich or to the charity of one's choice.
