Lt Selvidge Piloted B 24 42-40747 S- in " Operation Tidal Wave " one of the most daring raids of WW2. Coming in at tree top level the Sky Scorpions destroy the Steaua Romana oil refinery. The refinery does not produce oil for six months. The 389th earns Presidential Unit Citation, all of the crews receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, The 389th BG loses six aircraft on this mission

Houston, Tx. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, at St. Phillip's Presbyterian Church in Houston, Tx. Burial will be Thursday, August 29 at Rosehill Cemetery in Ardmore, Ok. at 11:00 a.m. Wm. Selvidge was born Sept. 6, 1916 in Ardmore, died Aug. 25, 1996. He was a 1939 graduate of OU and a 1942 graduate of OU Law School. He was editor of the 1937 Sooner and a member of Sigma Chi. During law school, he was a member of the State Legislature. Mr. Selvidge served as a Capt. in the Army Air Corps in England during WWII. He married Frances Schafer, who survives him, in Nov. 1944. A retired off-shore landman for Exxon, he is also survived by a son, Wm. M. Selvidge, Jr., M.D., Chapel Hill, N.C.; a grandson, Lucas; a sister, Rebecca S. Boone, Healdton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. P. Selvidge and brother, Geo P. Selvidge, Jr., all of Ardmore. Ardmore arrangements by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home
