Mr. Marshall was a pioneer of Ingham county, having come here from the state of New York when a young man. With his parents and family he commenced to battle life with that noble motto, "Pay as you go", and ever lived to advocate these principles.
He was married to Miss Ellen Hazleton on July 4, 1866 and to them 2 daughters were born, Mrs. Millie Near of Jackson and Lora, who was called to her reward in early life. His wife was also taken away in middle life.
He was converted under the labors of J.H. Gunderman and united with the Aurilius Baptist Church.
On May7,1876 he was united in marriage to Cyrene Stockwell. This union was blessed with one child, a daughter, Lena Dione Marshall.
Besides a wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Lena D. and Mrs. Millie Near, two brothers, John and Barrett; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Potter and Charlotte Carr.
Mr. Marshall leaves a good farm, also city property in Jackson. He was a well-to-do farmer, a good calculator, a kind husband and father and as the time of his departure was near he said he was waiting for the Master to say, "It is enough, come up higher." The funeral was held at the house on Saturday. His pastor, Rev. P.M. McKay officiated. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. Watts of Mason.
