Charlene Kresser Hayes 1948 ~ 2006
Family and friends mourn the passing of Charlene Kresser Hayes, who died peacefully at home November 24, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was 58.
On February 15, 1948 Charlene was born to Vernal Lester and Claire Jean Kresser in Salt Lake City. She graduated from South High in 1966 and went on to play on the University of Utah women's basketball team. Charlene remained a competitive athlete most of her life. Her breadth of talent was widespread - evidenced by her dulcet ability on various musical instruments - she played French horn for the university marching band.
She married Mark Kevin Hayes in 1970. After Charlene graduated from the university in 1971, they moved to Idaho where their three children were born. In 1987, they returned to Salt Lake where Charlene gave extensively of herself to the choir at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church - including its directorship for 14 years. Most recently she was a member of the parish and choir at St. Francis Xavier. Through this ministry she shared her deep conviction and love of the Lord with many. For 28 years Charlene deeply enjoyed the sun on her skin and fresh air in her lungs whilst carrying mail for the U.S. Postal Service. She will be greatly missed by friends and family, for her energy, her infectious enthusiasm, and her enormous generosity.
She is survived by her children, Traci, Travis, Tyler; their spouses, and three grandchildren; as well as her father, Vernal; siblings; and husband of 33 years, Mark Kevin Hayes, divorced. Viewing will be held Sunday, 6 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 West 5215 South. Funeral services will be held there also Monday, 12:30 p.m. with a viewing beginning at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
