Obituary: The 'Torch' newspaper Central Lake, Antrim County, Michigan
Alfred P. McGillis died suddenly, November 7, 1978 at Charlevoix Area Hospital following a heart attack. He was born on March 20, 1927 to Velma and William McGillis. On June 21, 1948 he was married to Edna F. Barber in Central Lake. Mr. McGillis served in the Armed Forces during WW2 and served for a time in France. A heavy equipment operator, he was employed for a time with the Antrim County Road Commission and of late was a self-employed construction worker.
Besides his wife Edna, of Eastport, six children, Kathy of Kalamazoo, John of Ionia, Velma Hoeksema of Kalamazoo, Deborah of Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Fred and Paul, both at home; three grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Georgana Payette of Olivet, Michigan, Mrs. Dona Ridenour of Marshall, Michigan and Mrs. Wanda Hall of Cascade Locks, Oregon: and five brothers, Ted of Portland, Ore., Clinton of Albion, Raymond of Augusta, Maine, and Alonzo of Portland, Ore. A large number of nieces and nephews and other relatives plus a host of friends also mourn his sudden death.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday November 10 1978 at the Diton-Ebert Funeral Home with pastor Donald Riedel officiatin. Interment was made in Lake View Cemetery, Torch Lake TWP.
