Mrs. Chas. Wiff of Town of Martell Passes Away
Margaret Ellen Wiff

Mrs. Margaret E. Wiff, one of the older well-known residents of the town of Martell, died at the Baldwin Hospital Friday, May 8, 1953, at 6:30 p.m. For the past year Mrs. Wiff has been in poor health which culminated in a stroke on Sunday, April 26th.

Margaret Ellen was the fifth child of Louis and Sarah Guiser. She was born January 7, 1872.

As a girl she attended the Kay school. After high school she returned to the same school as a teacher. After a few years of teaching, she was united in marriage to Charles C. Wiff of Martell on Decenger 24, 1895. This marriage took place at the Guiser family home. After her marriage she came directly to the Wiff farm where she has resided over fifty-seven years.

Her chief interests in life were her home, family and church. Her home was always open to friends and family. She truly lived in the "House By The Side of the Road."

Her family consists of two sons, Guy and Carl, and a daughter, Helen (Mrs. Howard Pollard) of Armstrong, Iowa. She was most fortunate to be able to have her two sons near her. Carl who has always lived in the family home, and Guy next door. She has watched eight grandchildren grow up and has helped in their training and development in every way she could. This past year she was made happy by the birth of her first great grandson Roger.

She was a life-long member of the New Centerville Methodist Church and a member of the W.S.C.S. since its founding.

Her work for the betterment of the community has been felt. She had a group of 4-H boys and girls for several years after she was a grandmother. She was always interested in good schools for her district.

Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Guiser, four sisters, three brothers and little granddaughter, Ruth Mary Benedict, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her death, one sister, Mrs. Nelson A. Wiff of Glendora, California; her husband, Charles; two sons, Guy and Carl, one daughter Helen, Mrs. Howard Pollard of Armstrong, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Shirley (Mrs. Russell Schutt) of Kerkhoven, Minnesota; Ellen of Denver, Colorado; Charles on the Guiser home farm; Susan and Thomas at home; David in Japan with the Armed Forces; John of River Falls, Wisconsin, Patricia at home; and a great grandchild, Roger, son of Charles.
