Thomas Van Lear was the first Socialist Mayor of the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota USA in the years 1917 and 1918. Thomas later was one of the founders of the Minnesota Star newspaper which was a forerunner to the current Star Tribune newspaper of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
