During the 1870 census she is noted as living with Mr. Melchor Werner and cited as "keeping house" at the age of 28 years old. And is listed as "Werner."
In 1881 Mrs. Candelaria de Lucero had her first child with Melchor, Sofia Josefa Werner. In the San Felipe de Neri baptismal record for Sofia the priest indicates she was an adulterous daughter of Josefa and Melchor, but the word adulterous was striken and superscripted with the word "illigimate." Likely because at this point in time Josefa and Melchor were not married and in the eyes of the church Josefa's legitimate husband continued to be Jesús José.
In 1900, it appears that Mrs. Candelaria de Lucero must have rekindled an old love and rejoined her first husband Jesús José in Old Albuquerque along with a 19 year old Sofia.
In the 1910 census, Mrs. Candelaria de Lucero is again enumerated in her home in Old Albuquerque, but listed as a widow and living with Sofia and her husband David.
Lastly in 1911, the San Felipe de Neri burial record cites her husband as Jesús with no mention of Melchor. Died of died of stomach cancer.
Children that appear within her household:
Tomas Werner - cited as "adopted" in multiple records. Is cited as "indian" in 1870 census.
Simona Candelaria: likely a natural child of Josefa. Unable to locate baptismal record.
Adolfo Werner: Unknown parents. Mother cited as Rosalia Candelaria.
Rosalía de la Trinidad Werner: Navajo. Baptized by Melchor. Josefa not mentioned at baptism. Is not cited as adopted only as "presented."
Ventura Werner: Unable to locate baptismal record. Parents cited as Josefa and Melchor in 1870 census.
