Mrs. Cornelia Aldridge of Yankee Hill passed away at 5:00 a.m. on a Thursday at the home of her mother and step-father, Henrietta Menzes and Henry Van de Weerdt of Yankee Hill. She was 44 years of age, having been born September 1888.
Cornelia had been an invalid for her last year and a half, the result of paralysis. She was born in Columbia where she attended the public schools and grew into womanhood. The Columbia/Yankee Hill area was her lifetime home.
Cornelia was born to a Dutch farming couple, Klaus and Henrietta Menzes Kroos, being the second of their seven daughters. Her sisters were Elizabeth, Johanna, Christine "Tennie", Marguerite, Teresa and Bertina.
Cornelia had many lifelong friends and others of whom remained in her life to the end.
Besides her parents four sisters survive: Mrs. Anna Ryden of San Francisco, Mrs. Margaret Miller of Santa Maria, Mrs. Christine "Tennie" Ghiorso of Columbia, and Mrs. Bertina Corlet of Sonora, and other relatives.
Her step-father, Henry D. A. Van de Weerdt, was a man from Belgium who boarded with the Kroos family. He was a miner who came to the United States in 1890. After the death of Klaus between 1900 and 1910, Henry married Henrietta, and became the step-father of the girls.
Her natural father, Klaus Kroos, was many years older than Henrietta having been born December 1821. Henrietta was born April 5, 1859 and passed away in Tuolumne County August 12, 1941.
Henry Van de weerdt was born September 27, 1860 in Belgium and passed away March 12, 1949, in Tuolumne County.
Henry's mother's maiden name was Marsh.
