From the Monitor Review, May 6, 1976:

Sarah Gerhart Schwartz was born September 24, 1878 in Adams, Minnesota, Township, to Fred and Helen Smith Gerhart, the last of thirteen children. She died at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota, Wednesday, April 7, 1976.

Following the death of her mother, she lived with her father in Rose Creek, caring for her brothers and sisters. On September 26, 1905, she married John Schwartz at St. Peter's Church in Rose Creek, Minnesota. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Frank (Irene) Nelson, Austin, Mrs. Erving (Marie) Brown, and Melvin Schwartz, of Rose Creek. They farmed northwest of Rose Creek until Mr. Schwartz's death in August, 1965. Sarah was a lifetime member of the Rosary Society.

Survivors include her three children; nine grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. April 10, 1976 at St. Peter's Church in Rose Creek with Msgr. Bernard Mangan officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Sister M. Evangeline Nelson and Mrs. Theresa Nelson were soloists. Mass servers were Martin Nelson, Michael Brown and James Bottema. Honorary pall bearers were Mrs. Theodore Lammers, Mrs. Frances Schammel, Mrs. William Schammel, Mrs. Helen Majerus, Mrs. Katie Meany and Mrs. William Cress Sr. Duane Nelson, Darwin Nelson, Richard Brown, Roger Schwartz, Larry Brown and Matthew Gerhart were pallbearers. Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
