Thelma E. Smithers , 94, Old State Road, died Tuesday at Hepburn Medical Center after being stricken at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Mark Bartlett, pastor of Lisbon Wesleyan Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Pinehill Cemetery, Oswegatchie.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Heuvelton Fire Department First Responders or to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Surviving are six sons, seven daughters, 55 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Three sons, Guy Harper, David Smithers and Vernon Smithers, a daughter, Arlene Adams, three brothers, David, Carl, and Darrel "Hap" Middlemiss, and three grandchildren died before her.
Born Nov. 22, 1901, in Norwood, daughter of Myron and Maude Beardon Middlemiss, she attended Lisbon schools.
She first married Guy Harper. Mr. Harper died in 1921. She then married Enos Smithers on Feb. 20, 1924. Mr. Smithers died in 1952.
A cook and a waitress, she was employed by Stewarts Restaurant, Heuvelton, Ma & Pa's, Jock's, The Nuggett, and the Holliwood Lounge, all in Ogdensburg.
Mrs. Smithers lived in Heuvelton during the early part of her life and had lived at her home on Old State Road since 1951. She was a member of Lisbon Wesleyan Church for over 80 years.
