The Hartford Day Spring, Wednesday, May 25, 1927
William Betz suffered a stroke of paralysis Friday evening and passed away Saturday morning at about 9 o'clock. The funeral was held at the Covert Congregational church on Monday afternoon. Rev. Kent officiating by request of the deceased. The pallbearers were T. E. Eisenlohr, Chas. Gunsaui, Will Frary, Will Lincoln, George Beattle, and John Lang. The music was furnished by Messrs. Kenney, Rood and Spelman. The obituary appears elsewhere in this issue.

William Chalmer Betz was born in Harrisonville, Fulton county, Pa., July 4, 1854, and passed away at his home in Covert, Michigan, May 21, 1927, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 17 days. His early life was spent in Pennsylvania and Illinois. On Dec. 10, 1883, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Rose Markwood of Holdridge, Nebraska. To this union four children were born, all of whom, with the widow, mourn his loss. They are Mrs. Jake Muth, Leroy E., and William L., all of Watervliet, and Charles of Covert. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; also one brother and two sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Betz moved from Nebraska to Michigan in 1894 where they resided in Stevensville for one year, after which they moved to Covert where they have resided for the past 32 years. Mr. Betz was a man of sterling character and was highly respected by all who knew him.
