Friedrick Wilhelm "William" Baumhoefer was born near Versmold Westphalia to Franz and Margarite Agnese (Paul-Hollmann) Baumhoefer. Along with his two brothers Fritz and Henry he immigrated to Missouri in 1866 presumably to avoid conscription into the Prussian army. They were followed in 1867 by their mother and two sisters Johanna Catherine and Francisca Charlotte.

William married Anna Katherine Rothert in 1872 and had farms at various times in Osage and Boone Counties. He settled finally on a small farm near Washington in Franklin County. His death on Oct 3, 1914 was ruled a suicide. William and Anna had at least 9 children. See William Wilke's bio in photos.

The author, Doug Wilke, is well aware that the death certificates for Johanna's brothers Henry and William list a maiden name for their mother as a Horstmann. This is actually the name of the wife of brother Fritz (name from first marriage). I cannot explain the discrepancy other than confusion or dementia?? I have too much evidence for the Paul-Hollmann name. See letter in Photos. Also note some minor errors in William Wilke's bio which I have corrected through ancestry research.
