Howard County farmer Robert Baumhoefer was the son of German immigrant farmer Frederick William Baumhoefer and Anna Katherine Rothert, of Osage and Franklin Counties. Robert married Lydia Zeller in 1907 in Boone County. They had two daughters, Pearl Baumhoefer Peters (1910-1992), and Opal Catherine Baumhoefer Knapheide (1912-2004).
