Day was the son of John Day, who was of English descent, and who settled in Kentucky in the early day, and moved to Ohio in 1802, settling near Eaton, where he remained until his death. He had seven children among them four sons - William, John N., Samuel and Nicholas.

They had the following children - William, Mary, Lovina, John H., George, Juliet A., Joseph, James, Ellen, Westley and Theodore.

They had had thirteen children - Ella (deceased), Cordelia (deceased), Laura, Lawrence N., Luella, Theodore, Charles, Horace, Wilmer, Emma (deceased), Eva (deceased), Elmore (deceased) and Cecil.
