Bettie Gray Obituary

Bettie Elnora Gray, 89, of Luray, died on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019.


She was born on July 31, 1930, in Virginia and was a daughter of the late Earl Raymond Batman and Dorothy Edna Henshaw Batman.


Mrs. Gray retired as a cashier from the Luray Caverns Corporation. She was a member of the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church.


On June 20, 1957, she married Johnnie Lewis Gray, who died on Feb. 24, 1977.


She is survived by three daughters, Betty Ann Barnes and Martha Zoe Weakley, both of Luray, and Sue Phillips of Hampton; two sons, Johnnie Lewis Gray Jr. and David Henry Gray, both of Luray; a brother, Jack Batman of Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Joel Gray; a brother, Joe Batman; and four sisters, Margie Haney, Lucille Jenkins, Ollie Morris and Edith Ageon.


A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Pastor Andy Seastrom.
