Erie -- Zoe L. Sears, 84, of Erie, died Saturday, April 8, 2000 at the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons, where she entered March 26.
She was born March 28, 1916 in Erie, the daughter of Walter and Hallie Walker Beard. She was a lifelong resident of Erie.
She graduated from Erie High School and received a teaching certificate from what is now Pittsburg State University. She taught at a county school several years and later served several years as Neosho County Treasurer.
For many years she was co-owner of the Neosho County Abstract Co., and later retired from that business.
She was a member of the Erie Federated Church.
On Feb. 4, 1939 she married Cecil "Bing" Sears at Girard. He preceded her in death July 30, 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Sears, Glenwood, Iowa, and Gene Sears, Hollister, Mo.; two daughters, Doris Roets, of the home, and Cathy Cook, Parsons; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Gene Beard, Overland Park; and three sisters, Doris Wagner, Anita Craig and Willa Yockey, all of Erie.
A brother, Walker Beard, preceded her in death.
Funeral services, led by Rev. Bill Bingham, will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the Erie Federated Church.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery south of Erie.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie. The casket will not be opened at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Erie Public Library.
