Thomas was born on 1890-07-01 in Church Street, Whitstable, Kent, England, after the death of his father, his mother took 6 of her 8 children to Australia aboard ZEALANDIC to Freemantle, Australia on 1911-10-29. On 1915-03-25 Thomas joined the Australian Imperial Army 11th Battalion service number 2256, he was wounded in Trapali and casevacked to the UK.

When he was able to walk, he visited the last place he had lived in before going to Australia, Rodmersham, Kent, England. Whilst staring at the old house, a young lady next door asked him what he was doing there in a strange uniform, to cut that story short she's my grandmother. Thomas marriage Beatrice Gertrude Lurcock on 1917-09-08 in Rodmersham, Kent, England. After WW1 Thomas worked as the gardener in Convent of the Nativity of Our Lord, Sittingbourne. Eventually Thomas had a house built in Park Drive Tunstall.
