Aged 91 years, 5 months, 21 days.
Leah Mae Jordan, 91, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in the Greensburg Care Center. She was born May 2, 1910, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Howard W. and Elsie Lauffer Shearer.
Prior to retirement, she was co-owner and bookkeeper for Jordan Foods. She was a lifetime member of Grace United Church of Christ of Jeannette, and a 50-plus-year member of OES 69 of Jeannette. She was also the former treasurer and dispatcher of Jeannette EMS, and was on the advisory board of the International Order of Rainbow Girls 63, where she was a Grand Cross of Color recipient. She played women's basketball for Felders Vanities in 1929 and 1930, and she was an avid bridge player.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Donald Jordan, in 1988; seven brothers and sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Jordan.
She is survived by three children, D. Richard Jordan of Jeannette, Bonnie Mae Jupina and her husband, Gerald, of Livermore, Calif., and Ronald A. Jordan and his wife, Karen, of Jeannette; nine grandchildren, Michele R. Hamerski, Vicki L. DiMuzio, Marcie S. Jordan, Lisa J. West, Valeri A. Jardine, Lori S. Horvat, Veronica J. Jupina, Richard A. Jordan, and Christine J. Holsopple; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, E. Jane Wilson and Lois I. Shearer, both of Jeannette; a brother, Robert L. Shearer of Jeannette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family.
Friends will be received in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Grace United Church of Christ, Jeannette, with her son, Pastor Ronald Jordan and the Rev. Robin Keating co-officiating. (Everyone please meet at the church.) Entombment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace United Church of Christ, 119 N. Second St., Jeannette; or Jeannette EMS, 225 S. Sixth St., Jeannette; or a charity of ones choice. OES 69 of Jeannette will meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for services.
