The daughter of William Richard Wornell and Judith Middleton, Mary married Harrison Ables December 24, 1837 at San Augustine Co., TX. Harrison was the son of Ezekiel Ables and Mariah/Mary (Harrison).

The family left Maury Co., TN for Texas in 1836 by wagon. They stopped in MS for a while to farm for a year and resumed their move in 1837, when they arrived at San Augustine. Mary and Harrison moved to Jack's Branch, near Hillsboro, about 1851. Harrison served under Sam Houston and from September 11 to December 11, 1836 served in the Republic of Texas Army in Capt. M. Cantley's Company, Infantry Regiment. He was instrumental in the formation of Hill County. After his death in 1860, Mary received a pension for his service in the Mexican War.
