"Samuel Abernathy, aged 80 years last August, died after a short illness at the home of his son Lucky Abernathy east of Snoddy's Mills Saturday about 1 P.M.

For a number of years he had been caretaker at the Rabb school near Coopers Ford and was taken ill with grip complications about two weeks ago going to the home of his son. He is survived by several married children.

Funeral services directed by Boord and Shelby were held at Cooper's Chapel at 10 A.M. Monday, interment following in the adjoining cemetery." - Covington Republican, Friday, March 11, 1927 (Obituary provided by Russ Nixon)
